Self Portrait

For my self portrait picture i'm going to show myself as people see me as: smiling, relaxed, happy and maybe even including a part of my interest which is football so i will try to add that element to the picture. The location of my picture will be taken in the memorial gardens as the sporting moment will be shown better in a natural environment. I will edit the picture on photoshop and make the background change different colour, the image of me i will brighten up and add some effects to the picture.

Build Up To The Exhibition

For the exhibition we did last week i dressed up for rag week which involved dressing up in neon colours, having to wear mad hats, coming in as anything we wanted for random day and then heroes and villains for the final day of the week.

Tuesday - Yellow shirt and yellow hoody
Wednesday - Mexican Hat
Thursday - Mouse Costume
Friday - Superman

I took several pictures for the people who dressed up for the cause and also set up one of the lights in the studio for the photoshoot.

Notes On Lighting

When using lighting on a specific object or person you use redhead (spotlight) to add a source of light also it eliminates shadows surrounding. A smaller light can be used which is called an in fill light, this helps to brighten the face if the person e.g is wearing a hat it gives an added source of light to help show more features if its too dark still, also a deflector or a piece of paper can be used in the same way this forces the light to bounce off the deflector and onto the object or person being used. Many effects can be added to the lighting scene e.g a daylight filter which can make the effect of that it looks like its morning.

The World Upside Down Photography

This shows a plant in the memorial gardens, it took a few minutes to take this picture, i like this shot as its clear and the lighting from the natural source really makes the plant stand out. I name this photo spiky plant.

This photo was taken outside the library on a nearby bench, i like this as it brings out the effect of waving due to the benchs position, i name this shot unusual seating.

Urban Vs Nature Landscape

This picture shows the corridors again outside the back of the college its a landscape image, i like it because it centers on the main doors at the bottom of the pathway and the sides angle towards the center to give effect. I had to get people to stand away from the shot to make the picture look very empty like its a lonely place, it took a few shots to do this as its normally busy during the lunch time. It definatly shows the urban side due to how the environment looks, and then theres the hint of nature as the leaves are laying at the side of the fence.

Portrait

This picture i took here is a portrait because it shows the person i'm taking the picture of, i took this at the back of the college on a nearby bench. I adjusted the aperture and shutter speed to get the correct lightness in the shot. I got the person to pose on the bench to make the picture more interesting, the lighting looks calm and really gives effect to this picture.

Robert Capa

Robert Capa's work involves taking defining moments just as they happen. He mostly took pictures in the war and showed the suffering and dispair of the soldiers as there fighting. He went on the frontline to wait until a moment which would be different seconds later and then photograph it.

Decisive Moment is when an event happens which seconds before or later wouldnt have occured. It makes the picture more interesting and effective.

Urban Vs Nature 3

The first thing that most people will see in this photo is the building in the background, its shown behind the natural environment where the trees and shrubs are in view at the sides and at the foreground with the grass. Again this would be classed as quite a calming picture as its again very empty but the building at the background gives you a sense that it will in time be a busy area. For a name i've titled this shot the background building.

This shot was taken in the memorial gardens it shows the nature of the park because the trees, bushes and some grass can be seen slightly in the picture, its a very calming shot because it seems a very quiet area as it is quite sparce. There is urban in the shot as theres a shopping mall in the distance and bins are placed throughout. The title of this piece is called parklife.

This picture was taken at the back of the college, this uses the golden third rule because the photo concentrates on the center of the shot, it has some natural element in the photo as there are leaves scattered on the path and its outside too. I feel a sense of calm as its relatively quiet and its quite a narrow place by the look of it, the title i give this shot is the outside corridor.

Alternative Landscape Andreas Gursky

The pictures here are the work of Andreas Gursky these are all landscape images, the first picture which is a supermarket has lots of colours, and the camera looks like its tilted and it shows more of the golden third as its concentrating on the middle of the picture.
The second picture which looks like an inside of a building its emphasising alot on the central position as the two sides look angled to make you look in center.
The final picture is what looks like an inside of a factory as there are lots of people in uniforms who look like they are sorting out some kind of product. Its another really good image because it concentrates on the center, and uses the golden third straight away, its very colourful as the outfits they are wearing are pink and blue and are pretty powerful colours to use in photo like this.

Notes On Landscape

1839 was when photography was invented by Louis-Jacques-Mande Daguerre’s and William Henry Fox Talbot

Ansel Adamns was an American Photographer who mainly photographed Yosemite National Park

The background is the area on the photo which is behind the main view and the foreground is what is in front of the main shot.

On a photography shot there are rules of thirds which divide the picture into 3 sections, the middle section is called the golden third as this shows the most photography detail.

Meudon was a photography shot taken by a man called Andre Kertesz in 1928

A camera obscura is a device that projects an image of its surroundings onto a wall or screen, a darkened room can be used as a camera obscura if a small hole is cut out and the light flows through and shows the outside image inside.

This portrait has the fresco filter it makes the picture standout and has a more darker look towards it. the darker colour adds to the darker clothes and makes it more dramatic.

This portrait i've given an interesting old fasioned view, i've placed a coloured pencil filter into this picture, to make this photo stand out i placed a clone stamp so that it gives the effect of multipal heads. i again brightened the image to lighten the effect more.

This portrait i added a plastic wrap filter onto the picture, i also adjusted the brightness so that it makes the picture shine alot more. It looks like the picture is encased in a plastic film.

Photo Basics

SLR - This is the single lens reflex, this means when your viewing and object through a manual camera the light from the source hits the object your taking a picture of, and then hits the mirror inside the camera which rotates the image for your eye to then see.

Aperture - The aperture is the opening which is on the camera, the lower the f stops the larger the aperture goes, and the same if the f stops are larger the smaller the aperture then goes like a human eye.

Shutter Speed - the shutter speed controls the time to which the photo is exposed to light such as the slower the shutter speed the more light gets into the picture. If the the speed is set to fast then there will be less light.

Depth Of Field - This is how much sharpness there is between the background and foreground such as the lower the f number and the larger the aperture the smaller the depth of field

The Tate image I disliked

The work i disliked at the Tate was the piece called The Snail by Henri Matisse. I wasnt too sure about this work when I first noticed it and after viewing it I still dont think its a great design, the main reason is that it just looks like paper of different colours stuck to a background and shows no real art of any sort apart from cutting and sticking.

The Tate image I liked

The work I liked at the Tate was the artwork called Portrait of V.I. Lenin with Cap, by an artist called Jackson Pollock III. The artwork i have chosen looks like an explosion of different paints that are placed onto a canvas, its a rather interesting way of calling it a portrait as there is no picture of a person, but i find it an interesting way of portraying it and the mixture of colours which are normally dark or shady add to the unsual piece.

My introduction to Photography

When i take pictures i mostly use my mobile phone all the time, i sometimes borrow my sisters digital camera to take more high quality shots or to film various events including concerts and even birthdays.
